Our Story
Building Literacy, One Sound at a Time™
The Reading Academy began with a simple belief — every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read with confidence.
Founded by Sarah & Sarah, two dyslexia-specialist teachers; our story began in 2002 at a special reading school in Co Dublin, where we taught children with dyslexia. Through years of hands-on teaching, research, and testing countless reading programmes, we discovered what truly works — and what doesn’t.
We realised that children with dyslexia can learn to read, but they need to be taught differently. Existing programmes addressed parts of the challenge, never the whole. So, we built something that did.
Grounded in the Orton–Gillingham approach, The Reading Academy was established in 2015 to bring structured, multisensory reading instruction to children with dyslexia — and to train the teachers who support them.
Since then, we’ve empowered over 1,000 students and 100+ teachers through our reading programmes, professional training, and online learning community.
Today, The Reading Academy stands as a trusted leader in dyslexia-focused literacy education — equipping educators with evidence-based tools and helping families transform reading outcomes, one sound at a time.
